• The lab is pleased to welcome Yu Qiang to the lab for several months. He's a Chinese Visiting Scholar from the Chinese Academy of Sciences Institute of Botany and is doing his PhD on plant stoichiometry in grasslands.

• The Elser group is proud to announce that Jim Elser has been honored with the 2009 ASU Professor of the Year award. link
• Michelle McCrackin has won a Fulbright scholarship to study in Norway. She plans on doing field work this summer in Norway, returning to several places she sampled in 2007.
• We are pleased to welcome Dag Hessen and Hans Petter Leinaas from University of Oslo, Norway, to our lab. Dag and Hans Petter will be with us for a month, during which time they will renew their association with the sun and do some collaborative work with the Elser lab.
• Claudia Acquisti's recent paper "Acquisti, C., J.J. Elser, and S. Kumar. Nitrogen-limitation shapes the composition of genomes, transcriptomes, and proteomes in multi-cellular eukaryotes. Mol. Biol. Evol." has been highlighted in The Scientist and can be found online at: The Scientist

• Jim Elser has been awarded the ASU Distinguished Faculty Award for 2008! link
• “Global analysis of nitrogen and phosphorus limitation of primary producers in freshwater, marine and terrestrial ecosystems” as published in the journal “ECOLOGY LETTERS” in December, 2007 has been recently identified by Thomson Reuters’ Essential Science Indicators to be one of the most cited papers in the research area of “GLOBAL NITROGEN CYCLE.” It will be featured as an Emerging Front paper in December, 2008.  link

• Jim Elser will give the Distinguished Alumni Series talk at the Uiversity of Notre Dame on October 2, 2008.
• Chinese exchange student Mr. Niu Decao joins the Elser group in October to collaborate with us on plant stoichiometery.
• We are excited to announce that Dr. Shelly Arnott (link to Arnott web site) will be a visiting scholar in the Elser lab for the Fall, 2008 semester.
• Arianne Cease is joining our lab to investigate grasshopper physiological ecology and stoichiometry. She will be co-advised in her PhD research by Jim Elser and Jon Harrison. Arianne worked this last summer in Inner Mongolia on grasshoppers along with Dr. Hao Shuguang.

• Katherine Dunning has sucessfully defended her Honor's thesis: A Mathematical and Empirical Analysis of Stoichiometric Effects of Light Intensity on Daphnia Dynamics and Coexistence.
• Jess Corman will be joining the Elser lab to begin work on her PhD starting in the Fall, 2008. We look forward to having her in our lab.
• Jim Elser is giving one of the plenary lectures at this summer’s Gordon Conference on “The Metabolic Basis of Ecology”, July 8–11 in Maine.
